I am always on the hunt for new beauty products and there’s something simply exciting about a fresh, new product! I love putting on a lipstick for the first time or looking at the patterns in a blush palette before it gets swished over. It is sort of the same way I feel about new colored pencils and a clean piece of white paper. It’s the beginning of creativity. However, as I have gotten older, I have realized for health reasons, it is more prudent to be thoughtful about the quality of cosmetics I put on my face. Our skin is an organ after all and it is wise to consider what we put on it as that will get absorbed and into our system.
Due to this, as you may have noticed, I’m always down to find cosmetic brands that live by these rules – eliminating toxins and enhancing your natural beauty without compromising your health. As we know beauty starts from the inside and that is figuratively and literally. The healthier we are, the more we will radiate that on the outside. So I was pretty happy when Savannah from Beautycounter approached me and introduced me to these amazing products! The whole line speaks to the sentiment of using natural ingredients in their cosmetics (more info on it here) and let me tell you, the quality did not suffer one bit from it!
I received Rosewater Spray and Lip Sheer Lipstick and I genuinely loved both products! The Lip Sheer was long lasting, didn’t chap dry out my puckers, and I loved its casing. Sounds silly, put I always appreciate a good presentation or cute packaging. The Rosewater Uplifting Spray was amazing too! It was a product that I don’t have a lot in my beauty cabinet for it to compete with so I loved the innovative factor of it. I just spray it on my skin for a fresh rejuvenation and it feels amazing and is very hydrating. Not to mention the smell! Ahhh! The smell.. rose and lavender are my two favorite scents so if anything with those aromas crosses my path, I’m like a moth to a flame! The rose water spray also sets in your make-up which is something much needed, especially in the warm upcoming summer days.
As a heart to heart, I have a very real appreciation for brands like these. They spread awareness and offer amazing, top quality alternatives to the brands that we grew up with that are proving to not be quite what we thought they were. My blog is themed as adjusting to life in our twenties and growing up and once I hit my thirties, I am sure my content (and hopefully readers) will grow with me. In spirit of this, one of the main things I have learned this decade is to not take your health for granted. You get one body so do what you can to take are of it – don’t binge drink so much, add greens to your diet, pay attention to your needs and quirks (we all have a different chemistry) and also, be mindful about the products you surround yourself with – including household products and especially beauty products. Do some research, put the extra effort in and avoid all parabens and toxins as they can ultimately take away the very thing you are trying to achieve – health, beauty and feeling confident and good in your own skin.
Look more into Beautycounter and other companies like them! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! I am no expert but I have had people I am close to affected by cancer, have done quite a bit of research, and have talked to doctors. I can only speak from my own experiences but I would be more than happy to open up a discussion! :o)
