Frenchy Cocktail

Clearly, as if I haven’t made it obvious enough, I have taken some awesome things from my trip to New Orleans. I gained a bit more knowledge on history, the south, jazz, cuisines and also, a new favorite cocktail! While at the speak easy the 21st Amendment a block way from Bourbon Street, I came across a cocktail that was right up my alley! It was called Frenchy. I don’t drink hard alcohol (makes me feel AWFUL and it really just is true what they say, the older you get the less you can hang..not too sad since I wasn’t that attached to begin with) but I do love me some wine (all kinds), champagne and light, fruity beers. But this particular cocktail had very little hard alcohol in it and was more so champagne and included two of my favorite flavors: lemon and strawberry! Mmmmm! Check it out…

What you will need:

  • Vodka
  • Strawberries
  • Lemon
  • Champagne
  • Sugar

First, I made my own fresh, strawberry infused vodka. The bartender told me how to do it because they make it fresh there every week. I bought vodka and poured it in a mason jar about 3/4 full. Of course, you can make as much as you like but since I’m not a big vodka drinker, I started with just a little. I then chopped fresh strawberries and put them in the mason jar with the vodka until full. I then put foil tightly on the top and left it in the fridge to infuse and cool for about three days.

Note: I picked strawberries that were a tad bit over ripe just because I figured they would give juicier flavors.

I made sure the vodka was ready by the time my friend came over to visit. She loves champagne and I knew she would enjoy this drink as much as I did. We poured a generous amount of champagne into wine glasses. Afterwards, I scooped out the strawberries and put in about three to four spoonfuls of vodka. If you are liquer-happy, go for it and add more! It’s really up to you. I would say the ratio of champagne to vodka though should be about 80 : 20.

Next, I squeezed a bit of lemon (about a teaspoon) into each glass and then a few dashes of sugar.

All that’s next, is to mix, add cute straws, cheers and enjoy! It was the perfect girly drink to catch up with a good friend over! Light and delicious!
