Blogging has given me so many fun adventures but I’m so happy to share one of the best yet – making new friends! I met Lisa through her blog, Strum Simmer Sip and immediately became a big fan of it! I mean what could be better than a blog that revolves around music and food?! Not much! Lisa is beautiful, fun, bright, talented, savvy and warm and all those wonderful qualities are reflected in her blog.
Unfortunately for me, Lisa will be moving just outside of Chicago this summer to begin studying for her MBA at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. San Francisco will miss her, as will I but as you can see from my latest post here, Chicago is amazing so she will have a lot more amazing food and music to write about!
Check out our interview below. We had breakfast at PanotiQ on Chestnut in the Marina where we chatted over lattes, lavender lemon tea, chocolate croissants and vegetable tarts. Delish! Good company and good food, nothing better!
Occupation: Management Consultant/MBA student at the Kellogg School of Management
Hometown: Long Beach, CA
City & Country of Residence: San Francisco, CA soon to be Evanston, IL
Other Cities Places You Have Lived: San Diego, CA
College/University Degree: UC San Diego, B.S. Management Science
When did you start your blog? February 2015
What inspired you to start it? I’ve always been a creative, but I realized that I enjoyed writing after completing my applications to business school. I wanted a creative project to fuel my passion of art, photography, music, and food and so, Strum Simmer Sip was born!
What are your main goals for your blog? Personally, I know that blogging will not only improve my writing, photography, and creative skills, but also open my eyes to new people and experiences. But my biggest goal isn’t just about me, it’s about having a positive influence on my readers and inspiring them to seek out new challenges and life experiences.
What is the most fun thing you have done for your blog thus far? Honestly? Hanging out with you, Jenna! Most of the things that I’ve done for my blog thus far, have been on my own (you know, photographing food in my kitchen?) but getting to hang out with a fellow blogger in-person is so amazing. I had no idea that blogging would bring new friendships into my life!
What is the most interesting job you have held to date? I’ve done a lot of interesting work in the health care consulting space, but I won’t bore you with those details. My very first job was at Coldstone Creamery and yes, I sang for tips!
Which sites and blogs do you check in to daily? There are so many great blogs out there, but the ones that I keep going back to include: Career Girl Daily, Food52, JooJoo Azad, and wifemamafoodie. I’ve started to get to know the bloggers behind JooJoo Azad and wifemamafoodie a little bit and besides writing fantastic blogs, they are both such wonderful and inspiring women!
What is your greatest achievement thus far? Definitely getting into Kellogg! I worked my butt off last year and I’m so happy and proud that I pulled it off!
Greatest passion? I think that’s obvious from my blog, food!
What is on your bucket list before you are thirty? I am dying to hike the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu. I’m hoping that one of my new classmates will lead a trek there during business school!
On that same note, where do you see yourself in five years? Gosh that’s so hard because I know my perspectives are going to change a lot over the next two years in school. At a high level, I would say that in five years, I’ll be back in San Francisco with a few more years in consulting and/or start up experience under my belt (TBD after b-school), married, with a golden retriever, and still blogging!
What’s your fashion passion of the three: strum, simmer or sip? If I had to pick one, I would have to say the strum. Learning guitar was the pivotal moment that sparked my creativity. Yes, I’ve always loved food, but playing music made me feel more like my true self than ever before. I’m not sure that I would have had the confidence to start this blog without the perspective that playing music gave me!
Favorite neighborhood in San Francisco? I love NoPa! To me, it’s a more relaxed version of the Mission. And they have a Bi-Rite!
Last three things you bought: T-shirts from Everlane (I’m so obsessed with them right now!), my new road bike, and (don’t laugh) a gel seat cushion for my car since I’ll be road tripping from SF to Evanston!
Best thing you’ve ever bought: Hands down, my Vitamix!
Style icon: T-Swift has the cutest style! I wish I could pull of the high waisted shorts like she can.
Words to live by: “Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you.” – Walt Whitman
Favorite travel destination you have been to: South Africa.
Dream travel destination: I have too many…I really want to visit France (Paris, and the South) and Bali.
What is an ideal day in San Francisco look like to you? The sun is out. Is that too much to ask? I grab my boyfriend and a Desteil Ranch Turkey Sandwich from Bi-Rite and head to Dolores Park to meet a bunch of friends for a picnic.
What are you going to miss most? The people. I have the greatest friends here in SF as well as my sister, but I know that I’m going to make a ton of new best friends in business school.
What are you most excited about in Chicago? Meeting my new classmates and interacting with different people from all over the world!
If you could have lunch with any woman, who would it be and what would you order? I’d love to get sushi with Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos.
What would you have told yourself at 18? I wrote a post about what I would tell my 22 year old self but 18? Probably that there is a much bigger world out there and that I should go explore it (Not studying abroad during undergrad was one of my biggest regrets; in fact, I didn’t even leave SoCal until after college).
