I think I have heard the word ‘detox’ a few too many times in recent years. Though sometimes it’s necessary, I just see the lifestyle of doing anything in excess then ‘detoxing’ by taking things away just to be a vicious cycle. In my own opinion, it’s too many shocks to the body and will never give you the results you want, so balance is better.
You can do healthy things, have healthy juices, eat well often while also drinking moderately or indulging here and there on your favorite foods. I think your twenties are the time to start facing facts: we’re not invincible. We only get one body so to do it all in moderation, is probably better then going balls to the wall one way or another.
That all being said, there are going to be moments where you DO do something in excess and that’s okay if it’s once in a while. Go ahead, order extra cheese and bacon on that burger, have a couple celebratory shots at that Bachelorette party. So for those times, I have concocted quite the little detox (for lack of a better word) drink.
I sometimes drink this in the AM, just to start my day off right. I will warn, it doesn’t taste the best, but if you can muster up the strength for those aforementioned celebratory shots, you CAN do it for your little bod. Trust me.
It is hot water with: turmeric, apple cider vinegar, lemon, coconut oil, honey and cinnamon. TA-DA!
As you know, I’m not big on measurements. I think eyeballing things is the best way to experiment with recipes and what is right for you. That being said, I do dashes of cinnamon and turmeric and am pretty generous with the honey and lemon. I put probably around a teaspoon of coconut oil in there too.The apple cider vinegar is SO GOOD for you though the taste is less delicious than its benefits so I probably do just half a teaspoon of that.
The healthy and pH balancing properties in all of those ingredients is cancer-fighting and good for your whole system. It will also help skin and hair so what will make you pretty on the inside will also make you pretty on the outside! (True to life).
I know there is no specific recipe or flavoring to this but there is just too many wonderful things for your body in all those ingredients that it’s easiest to throw them all together! And as always, try to go organic.
Mix well and sip up!
